I was born in 1959 in San Diego, California into a very artistic family. My father, Jack Boyd, was a self taught sculptor, artist and jeweler. At the young age of five, I began hammering and soldering metal into circles alongside my father. I continued to work with my father for seventeen years, learning the fine art of metal sculpting and hand-forged jewelry design until his passing in 1982. I continue creating unique pieces of jewelry on my father's anvil using most of his tools. I enjoy working with gold, sterling silver and bronze most of which I forge shape with a torch and hammer creating contemporary, modernist and brutalist traditional Boyd jewelry designs.I enjoy incorporating organic, geometrical and abstract styles into all of my pieces. I also have a love of the lost wax process. Much of my inspiration comes from the nature that surrounds me in southern California. I have endless design ideas and there are not enough hours in the day.
Today I am grateful to my father for the skills he passed on to me, my wife Lynn for marketing, photographing and representing our jewelry and the awesome people who have been purchasing, wearing and collecting our family jewelry for 60 years. I use this inspiration while designing and creating unique, one-of-a kind pieces of artistic jewelry and sculpture in my studio in Poway, California.
Jack Boyd was born in San Diego, California in 1934. He grew up in the small town of Alpine, California on a ranch with his Mother, Father and brother. At a very young age he began to sculpt metal objects and develop his own style of art. His passion for art grew and continued into a young man who made a name for himself as a self-taught artist-sculptor.
He excelled in a great variety of techniques and worked in many media. He received international recognition and his work was exhibited in leading museums and galleries through out America and Europe. His work ranged in size from miniature to architectural. He was very well known for his amazing work in jewelry as well and many still treasure pieces they collected from him in the 1950's thru the 1970′s. His most recognized sculptures are the bronze figures in movement on a walnut base. Today his work is still well sought after and admired by many collectors.
